Cornamusa scozzese: i brani che devi assolutamente conoscere

La cornamusa scozzese ha un repertorio musicale sorprendentemente ampio, che spazia dalla Ceòl Beag (musica leggera) fino alla Ceòl Mòr, considerata la vera e propria musica classica di questo strumento. Quest'ultima comprende il Piobaireachd, termine gaelico che designa l'arte di suonare la cornamusa in modo profondo e strutturato, con brani che raccontano storie, onorano eventi o commemorano persone. 

La Ceòl Beag, invece, raccoglie una varietà di stili musicali molto più ampia e accessibile: dalle Slow Airs alle marce, dai Lament alle danze come Jigs, Strathspeys, Hornpipes e Reels, passando per inni e adattamenti di canzoni tradizionali o brani contemporanei riarrangiati per cornamusa.

In questo articolo voglio offrire una guida all'ascolto pensata per chi si avvicina per la prima volta a questo strumento. Ho raccolto una selezione di brani molto noti e spesso eseguiti, suddivisi per categoria. L'elenco non è esaustivo – esistono letteralmente migliaia di composizioni – ma rappresenta un buon punto di partenza.

Vale la pena ricordare che la cornamusa scozzese è tutt'altro che uno strumento del passato: è viva, attuale, e continuamente alimentata da nuove composizioni. Alcuni dei brani che propongo sono tradizionali, altri sono stati scritti di recente ma sono già entrati stabilmente nel repertorio.
